The NATED N1-N3 Bricklayer & Plastering qualification is a qualification from Levels N1-N3 focussing on the theory of bricklayering and plastering. This qualification meets the academic requirements for you to write your trade test once you have aquired the required practical hours.  This qualification consist of one compusory part (N1-N3 theory) and one optional part (practical hours).

PART 1, N1-N3 Theory (Compulsory)


This part is compulsory. Students are required to complete all their N1-N3 theory subjects to atain their national certificate.

PART 2, Practicals (Optional Extra)


You can complete 3 weeks of optional practical hours within your field of study. This is done just after either N1 or before N3 and will count towards your practical hours required to write the trade test.

Only 2% of all private and public TVET colleges have the facilities and capabilities to offer a practical component with their engineering studies, BUT a staggering 90% of the students that receives practical are employed.

Duration:

Full Time: 1 Trimester (3 Months) Per N-Level (4 Subjects)
Part Time: 2 Trimesters (6 Months) Per N-Level (4 Subjects)
Correspondence: 
2 Trimesters (6 Months) Per N-Level (4 Subjects)
Optional Practicals: 3 weeks/15 days, done between trimesters.

Admission Requirements:

 N1 Entry Requirement: Grade 9 (Std 7) Certificate with a pass in Mathematics and Physical Science OR no formal qualification required for everyone 23 years or older.

 NOTE: Proceed to next level only when the previous level has been successfully completed i.e. N4 for N5, etc.

Qualifications:

National Certificate: The student will receive a national certificate form the Department of Education if all external department exams are passed. This certificate is not issued by us, but only by the department of education.

Learning Methods & Delivery:

Study methods generally vary from person to person. This is something we are aware of and as a result have created a learning experience that appeals to the different study habits of our students and those currently in a full time job. Although the course content is the same throughout, there are three different types of learning delivery methods used.

Full Time
Reach your full potential through our instructor led classes combined with interactive lessons, practical assignments and in field experience. Our full time offering consist of a full working day, 8 hours per day divided into multiple periods.

Part Time
Designed for the working professional, our part time program covers the same amount of information as our full time offering. Combined with our Online Learning, at home exercises/assignments and in class lectures, this will have you ready for exams in no time.

Correspondence
We have re-defined correspondence studies. Our Assisted Distance Learning ensures that the student never gets left alone to do only self-study by combining online Virtual Classrooms and at home exercises and assignments, all managed by our myAcademy Student Portal.

Kindly note that we reserve the right to cancel/postpone any Full Time or Part Time subjects should the minimum required student numbers not be met. This will be communicated before the commencement of studies and all effort will be made to find suitable alternatives in such a scenario.

It should further be noted that should we not have sufficient number of students per subject for our Correspondence course that we reserve the right to provide the students with pre-recorded class videos and not live classes.  Students will however be able to post questions on their student portal for assistance.  This will be communicated before the commencement of studies.

PART 2, Practicals Bricklayer & Plastering, 120 Hours (Optional Extra, Done On-Campus)
You can complete 3 weeks of optional practical hours within your field of study. This is done just after either N1 or before N3 and will count towards your practical hours required to write the trade test.

This program covers basic knowledge and experience for the trades of: Bricklayer, plasterer, terrazzo worker and wall tilers. It will cover the following modules:

  • Module 1: Hand Tools – uses and care: the basic and essential hand tools used within the Bricklaying & Plastering trade will be covered.
  • Module 2: Building materials – recognition: the various types of sands and stones, as well as sizes of the aggregate for different uses in the various trades will be demonstrated.
  • Module 3: Tests, including the object of such tests – site tests on materials: cleanliness of aggregates, slump tests, Portland cement tests on tensile strength and setting time will be demonstrated.
  • Module 4: Construction – including preparation, precautions and basic principles will be covered: basic setting out of structures, bonding patterns of brick work, tiled and plaster finishes.
